Thanksgiving Dinner Recipes

We’re always searching for the best Thanksgiving recipe we can find, whether it’s pumpkin pie, stuffing, turkey or cranberry sauce. Preparing lots of good food is one of the best traditions at Thanksgiving time.

Pecan Pie by Betty Taylor

  • 3 eggs
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1/3 melted butter
  • 1 cup pecan halves
  • 1 unbaked pie shell

Combine all ingredients and pour into unbaked pie shell. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until knife comes out clean.

Nana's Pumpkin Pie by Grace Johnson

  • 2 cups pumpkin pie (1 can)
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 Tbsp flour
  • 1 Tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 eggs, beaten

Mix together well, add beaten eggs last. Pour into pie shells and bake at 450 degrees for 5 minutes, then 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Check for doneness with knife in center of pie.

Chocolate Chip Bars

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans, toasted
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking pan and set aside. Combine flour and baking soda in a medium bowl. Set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream sugar and butter. Add egg and vanilla, beating at medium speed until light and smooth.

Decrease mixer speed to low and add flour mixture, pecans and chocolate chips. Do not overmix.

Transfer batter to prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean but center is still soft. Cool on wire rack before cutting into bars.

Yield: 12 bars.

Sweet Potato Casserole - Winner of Mississippi Governor's Cup - 1974

Filling

  • 3 cups boiled and mashed sweet potatoes
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup raisins

Topping

  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup flour

Mix sweet potatoes, sugar, 1/2 cup margarine, eggs, vanilla and raisins. Pour into greased casserole dish. Mix topping with remaining brown sugar, pecans, 1/4 cup margarine, and flout. Spread over potatoes and bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
